Our Review:
Sofia Milos (Sopranos fans may remember her as the shapely Sicilian Tony didn’t bed) is having more man trouble. Her husband drowned in a storm off the coast of Massachusetts, and her coltish teenage daughter (Emmy Rossum) is trying to get her to date the shady new guy in town, played by Jason Isaacs. With curly tresses bouncing everywhere, Milos looks like a cross between Madonna and Patti LuPone and even shows off her own vocal chops as she sings Portuguese dirges in a local club. Moments like that add to this internationally flavored love story’s charms, even if it does sometimes feel like a hucksterish attempt at cashing in on My Big Fat Greek Wedding’s success. No matter, although Passionada is destined to be more sleeper than sleeper hit, the buoyant cast manages to float this boat just fine. (Need a Recipe for Romance?
