Snap Independent Features Announces New Film, "Fake News," Starring Eric Roberts, Sofia Milos, Martin Kove & John Savage

Lancaster, CA, June 02, 2017 --(PR.com)-- "Fake News" is a new original film that follows Maxwell Stern, a no-nonsense reporter with a reputation for breaking the most scandalous stories in America. When one of his manufactured scandals backfires, he finds himself fighting against some of the most powerful forces in American politics.

Starring Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts as Maxwell Stern, Sofia Milos as the enigmatic sister of Maxwell, Jennifer Stern, and co-starring Martin Kove as the diabolical Vice President John Phillips, "Fake News" presents an engaging story with themes that are both relevant and up-to-date. Thrilling, suspenseful, and incredibly witty, "Fake News" begins principle filming on June 19th.

John Savage, the multitasking actor, producer, composer and production manager, has agreed to play the president of the United States, Wayne Walker, in "Fake News."

Eric Roberts ("The Dark Knight," "The Expendables") appears in a new starring role, starring opposite Sofia Milos ("CSI: Miami," "The Sopranos") as lead detective, and sister of Maxwell, Jennifer Stern, and co-starring veteran actor Martin Kove ("The Karate Kid," Rambo: First Blood Part II"). "Fake News" is written by Executive Producer Samuel Morris ("Hidden Valley: The Awakening")

"A new regular addition to the cast from series 2 is Sofia Milos. Sofia plays Yelina Salas (though i think that should be Caine) who is the main police detective that helps CSI. She was married to Horatio's brother Raymond who was killed a few years previous in a drug deal gone wrong.
This character (and Actress) and the underlying storyline between Yelina and Horatio is one of the reasons where season 2 is better than season one."

New York Times - www.nytimes.com

FILM REVIEW; A Journey From Mourning to Moonlight
By STEPHEN HOLDEN

Celia Amonte (Sofia Milos), the sultry Portuguese protagonist of ''Passionada,'' is one of those tempestuous superwomen, familiar from European films, who are often described with awestruck hyperbole as forces of nature. Anna Magnani, Sophia Loren and Lena Olin have all played variations on this type, which Hollywood, in its obsession with youth and lean, nipped-and-tucked bodies, rarely produces.

But Ms. Milos, an American actress of Greek and Italian descent, fits it to a T. Her most memorable role remains Annalisa Zucca, the formidably cunning, ominously sexy mob boss Tony Soprano tangled with when "The Sopranos" took him on a business trip to Italy...

'Passionada' is a Story to Love and Embrace

by Kevin Thomas

"When Sofia Milos first appears in 'Passionada', a charming love story for adults, she has the impact of a goddess. Extraordinarily beautiful, with an aquiline nose, a full mouth and long black hair, Milos is ideally cast as Celia Amonte, a widow in her mid-30s who live in the Portuguese American community of New Bedford, Mass..."

Variety.com - 'Passionada' by Lael Lowenstein

August 15, 2003

By LAEL LOEWENSTEIN

"An old-fashioned romantic yarn strung against the backdrop of New England's Portuguese community, 'Passionada' is a lovely, albeit imperfect fable marked by strong performances and infused with glorious bursts of soulful fado folk music.

Sofia Milos plays Portuguese immigrant Celia Amonte, a widowed seamstress-by-day, fado singer by night.

Unglamorous in her daytime life, Celia is stunning behind the microphone. Rife with pain and longing, the songs rise above the prosaic story and yield to intoxicating reverie; when they end, it's like being forcibly awakened from a dream.

Milos, a regular on "CSI: Miami" who is of Greek and Italian descent, makes Celia a complicated and sympathetic heroine. An unconventional dark beauty whose looks defy easy classification, she so commands the viewer's gaze it's easy to believe Celia's angst and voice are her own..."

A big fat future for 'Passionada'?

By Joe Baltake -- The Sacramento Bee Published Aug. 15, 2003

"Milos, who is relatively new to films but is best known as the mob boss from Italy in a few episodes of "The Sopranos," has the same earthy qualities of the young Sophia Loren. She effortlessly drips with sensuality. Isaacs, who is usually cast as a villain ("The Patriot," "Windtalkers"), is showcased here in a rare light romantic role that brings to mind Cary Grant.

Milos and Isaacs should be teamed up in a remake of the Loren-Grant comedy "Houseboat." Based on this film, they make a nice team."

Boxoffice Online (www.boxoff.com) - 'Passionada' Review by Jeff Schwager

PASSIONADA

"A big-hearted love story set in the Portuguese fishing community of New Bedford, Massachusetts, it begins with a procession along the waterfront to honor the fishermen who were killed in a storm seven years earlier. A beautiful woman casts a wreath into the water and pledges her undying love to her dead husband: She's Celia, the film's central character, played with equal measures of strength and vulnerability by the intoxicating Sofia Milos..."

"Without giving away too much, this is a charming, delightful and uplifting movie experience with a very talented ensemble of actors. Sofia Milos is absolutely stunning, particularly in the Fado scenes. Hers is a noble and admirable balancing act of juggling difficult emotional nuances while in an emotional tug-of-war, and she does so with endless grace, bravado and elan. This could well be a major break-out vehicle for Sofia Milos, much like 'Mystic Pizza' was for Julia Roberts."

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER - Review July 10, 2002
Passionada
Seattle International Film Festival

 By David Hunter

While not exactly setting the marquee on fire with star names, this unabashed romancer from director Dan Ireland -- co-founder of the Seattle International Film Festival, where "Passionada" premiered June 16 as the closing-night event -- goes down smoothly thanks to the trio of lead actors, whose enthusiasm and chemistry help make up for the somewhat routine filmmaking. Ireland, who cast Renee Zellweger in her breakout role ("The Whole Wide World"), hits pay dirt again with Sofia Milos ("The Sopranos"), giving the indie project legitimate enticements for moviegoers.

"Passionada" is set in the fishing community of New Bedford, Mass., with Portuguese-American widow Celia Amonte (Milos) and her nice-and-naughty daughter Vicky (Emmy Rossum) both coming under the spell -- and vice versa for him -- of luckless gambler Charlie Beck (Jason Isaacs). In the film, coming out after doing war flicks for Ridley Scott and John Woo and before his turns in the new Jackie Chan and Harry Potter movies, Isaacs is credible as a shifty-but-means-well bloke who is drawn to Celia's beguiling persona.

Having lost her husband in an accident seven years earlier, beautiful Celia is not an easy catch to land, but Charlie finds a co-conspirator in dish-in-training Vicky, who wants to learn how to count cards and win at the local casino. They strike a deal, which includes him teaching her the skills that have gotten him in mucho trouble. In his defense, Vicky is irresistible, and Celia is one attractive lady, a singer at a nearby restaurant who radiates femininity despite her broken heart.

Charlie presents himself as a well-off businessman and persuades his yacht-owning friends to help impress Celia. Things are going swimmingly until the truth comes out, of course, and Charlie gets beaten up in a tacked-on confrontation with Russian gamblers, who also threaten Vicky.

Along with the three leads, with Isaacs underplaying effectively against such radiant scene-stealers as Milos and Rossum , there's a trio of veterans capably filling out the principal cast: Theresa Russell and Seymour Cassel as Charlie's best friends and Lupe Ontiveros as Celia's mother-in-law.

Pic captures 'merriment' of Portuguese culture

By CATHY DUNKLEY

Samuel Goldwyn Films and Fireworks Pictures have picked up North American distribution rights to "Passionada," directed by Dan Ireland ("The Whole Wide World").Set against the picturesque backdrop of the New Bedford, Mass., fishing community, romantic drama centers around a Portuguese-American family in which old traditions conflict with modern views.

Story concerns a talented Fado singer who, as a single mom, tries to juggle life with her willful teen daughter and meddling mother-in-law. The singer's life is disturbed when an attractive stranger falls in love with her.

Pic stars Jason Isaacs, Sofia Milos.
Emmy Rossum, Theresa Russell, Seymour Cassel and Lupe Ontiveros.

Jim and Steve Jermanok penned the script; Jim Jermanok also is exec producer on the pic.

"This is a feel-good film full of charm, merriment and the heart of Portuguese culture," said Meyer Gottlieb, president of Samuel Goldwyn Films. "I fell in love with Sofia, as will everyone else."

Deal was brokered by Gottlieb and David Bakalar, president of Sandyo Prods. and producer of the pic, with their attorneys. Paula Silver and Jeff Dowd will serve as marketing consultants on the pic.
